Opening reception, Sept 14, 2019: Amy and I in front of the Channel Islands Maritime Museum in Oxnard CA. This museum is hosting the West Regional Expo through the end of the year. In its own right, it has a vast and interesting collection of Maritime history as well as an amazing collection of rare and valuable marine art. I am honored to be hanging in the same halls as John Stobart and a first class collection of the best in the world of marine art, both past and present.

This is one of my personal favorites and usually hangs in my living room, that is until being chosen for the West Regional this past summer. Now I have learned it has been chosen to represent the best of ASMA in their prestigious National Exhibition! So I'll have an empty spot on my living room wall for another year and a half.
For a schedule of the 18th National Exhibition, see "News & Events" at the top of this webpage, or click on the image above for a link to the show.
"Captain Ward's House"
This 11 x 14 oil-on-linen was completed for a collector and friend who lived in this quaint 19th century Cornwall home once belonging to a famous Hudson River Sloop captain named John W. Ward. The house sits at the foot of Storm King Mountain at the edge of town just above Cornwall Landing.

"Winter Sunset on Martha's Vineyard"
This 20 x 36 oil-on-linen, seen here in progress, began over 11 years ago! After blocking in the under-painting, I put the canvas aside and somehow avoided it until this winter. Just completed (see below), this landscape depicts a winter sunset on Martha's Vineyard's venerable South Beach. This magnificent place attracts thousands of summer visitors on any given day in July and August. Bathers crowd nearly every square foot of soft sand on this beach simply to be warmed by broad southern exposure while gently cooled in refreshing southern breezes that dance over the rhythm of surf generated by an endless Atlantic surge. But come winter, South Beach transforms into a vast desert of salt and sand, where it is rare to find another human soul, yet common to find your own. And as winter tips the Earth away from the sun, the shorter days move the sunset well into the Southern Hemisphere, bathing the beach in a brief warm glow of burnt sienna while casting cool shadows of phthalo blue…my favorite complimentary palette.
